Malena Zavala Memories Gone

One of my favourite artists to emerge over the past few years, Malena Zavala is on the verge of breaking into the mainstream. The UK-based Argentinian's debut album, Aliso, is sensational, and if the singles from forthcoming follow-up, La Yarara, are anything to go by, she looks to have gone one better.

"Memories Gone" is the final single from La Yarara and another gem from the singer-songwriter. A chamber pop song about "mourning the loss of a memory that has faded away," it draws on Zavala's South American background, while incorporating elements of indie folk and '60s pop. Speaking on the track Zavala said:

I wrote it when making my first album, but I wanted to tie it all in with the Latino feel of La Yarará so I stripped it back to vocals and guitar added a ronroco arrangement. The ronroco is an Andean ten stringed guitar-like instrument that has a slight echo and somehow creates its own reverb, and I love the way it sounds on the track.
