Why do we like this?
Melbourne folk-musician Pete Uhlenbruch caught me off-guard a little with his latest single. "The Hypnotist." I hadn't actually heard of him or his moniker, Owls of the Swamp, but after doing a little digging came up with a bunch of information on this captivating artist. Currently working on a third album over in Europe, he's supported a bunch of folk stars, including Jens Lekman and Old Man River.
The first single off the coming album, "The Hypnotist" sees a slightly new direction for Uhlenbruch with the introduction of synth layering. Still containing the delicate finger-picking he's become known for, he's moved away from the classic-folk style, giving him a fuller, more complete sound.
Recorded at the famous Greenhouse Studios in Iceland, this track features some spectacular backing vocals from Markéta Irglová, whose ghostly tones provide the perfect contrast for Uhlenbruch's earthy voice.
