It seems we’ve stepped into yet another post-punk revival, or post-post-punk era if you prefer the phrasing.
While other (mostly UK-based) post-punk bands like IDLES and Sleaford Mods have adapted the political -- and often humorous -- rage driven honesty of Fugazi, the Vancouver music collective of seven, Crack Cloud, sound more like a playful and kraut-y offspring to Talking Heads and Television.
With the guitar driven motorik of "Drab Measure" being the band's most-exciting work to date, the debut album of 2018 also contains a couple of songs that would suggest that there are some hip-hop ambitions within the group. If 2019 turns out exactly how I’d like it, Crack Cloud will team up with King Krule and release a full on post-punk-hop album.
#kingcrack2019 anyone?
