Dexter Tortoriello and Megan Messina, of Houses, perfect the feel of heavy, dreamy electro-pop in this single. I love the contrast between the tone of the tune and its title, "Fast Talk," as there is nothing quick about it. It's methodical and well-made, investigating the existential meaning of life. And the voicemail in the middle of it is 100% real, left by a friend of Tortoriello.
Tortoriello and Messina met as coworkers at an Apple store more than eight years ago, and soon after moved to Hawaii in 2010 for three months. Tortoriello released the first Houses song in May 2010 after they returned, and although it got them signed to a label, it has taken several more releases and almost a decade to get noticed on major radio stations. And, like the clear channel stations the past few months, I simply cannot get enough of this song.
