Why do we like this?

I listened to this track a couple of times before it got under my skin, but there's something about it that I just can't shake.

Toronto quartet Fresh Snow are getting ready to release their new album next month, and they've just released "Proper Burial," featuring vocalist Carmen Elle (Diana, Army Girls).

Opening on a big, shuffling beat, the tone is soon dominated by a strong, rhythmic bass line -- an ideal contrast to Elle's delicate, innocent lilt. As with a lot of my favorite music, the track soon starts to unravel, growing stranger and spookier as we progress along. Soon enough that innocence is combatted by unnervingly edgy phrases, led by dissonant beats and haunting, falsetto backing vocals.

Fresh Snow's upcoming release Won will be out on September 11 via Hand Drawn Dracula.
